Live review – Darrell Scott and friends salute Ben Bullington, City Winery Nashville

Last week I took part in a very special night at City Winery Nashville to honor a friend and celebrate another friend’s album release. Ben Bullington was the reason we were there (you can read more about Ben at the link), and it’s easy to see from the cast assembled what we all thought of him. Darrell Scott has just released a stunning album of Ben’s songs, called “10 (Songs of Ben Bullington)”. It’s a beautiful piece of work and a fitting tribute to Ben, who passed away in 2013. Please do yourself a favor and get a copy. It’s an intimate and deeply soulful work.

“While there were poignant moments, like Crowell performing a song about the last day he spent with Bullington, and Peters’ rendition of her original “The Cure for the Pain,” the show was far from somber. Crowell and Scott served up Bullington’s sharp-tongued “Country Music, I’m Talking to You,” and Womack delivered his own stream of consciousness epic, “Alpha Male & The Canine Mystery Blood.”
